    Kanye West
For anyone who saw the NBC "Concert for Hurricane Relief" you heard Kanye West's comment about how "George Bush doesn't care about black people" and the way that the media is portraying the "black people" vs. the "white people" in New Orleans. The rapper also said that "They've given them [the US Military] permission to go down and shoot us."

In addition to donating $ to the American Red Cross, please consider donating blood. Money can buy supplies, food, water, etc... but it can't buy blood to save lives. I wish I could donate blood but I can't because I don't meet the requirements. But my little sisters (they're 20 yrs old) do it every 6 months and they say it's not that bad. Plus... they give you juice and cookies afterwards! Just another way to help...

    4th of July story...
On the 4th of July, I went to the lawn of the US Capitol to watch the concert and fireworks. They passed out small American flags to the thousands of people on the lawn. While taking a break from enthusiastically waving the flag, I noticed that there was a black mark on the bottom stripe. Someone had crossed out "Made in China" with a black sharpee! My thoughts? In the order that they came to me:
    1. I feel sorry for the poor intern who had that task,
    2. Why didn't they use a red sharpee?
    3. Are there enough stars and stripes on here?
    Only in America...

    90 degrees
According to weather.com, that's the current temperature outside. It's not that at bad actually, but then I'm sitting on my couch with the a/c set at 72 and a blanket over me. So what do I know. I'm still in my PJs, trying to figure out what I'm doing today.

This is supposed to be my "finish unpacking and decorate the apartment" weekend. I framed a bunch of prints, stained some furniture from Ikea, and brought out everything from my remaining packed boxes...leaving me with a big mess! The real problem is that since my roommate is out of town, I can't put anything up on the walls. I can't hold and nail and see if it's straight all at the same time by myself. Also, if I hung everything up, it would all be at 5'1" my eye level. =) So for now it's all laid out in the living room until someone taller can help me hang it up.

Yesterday I saw the movie Crash. If you're looking for a good, thought provoking movie, I would highly recommend it. For those who have not heart of it... it's a movie about racism and it's set in LA. The cast includes Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Ryan Phillippe, and Matt Dillon. I don't wanna say too much about it because I don't want to give it away, but I hadn't seen a movie that made me think as much as this did in a while. It gets 4 out of 5 stars. =)

Recently, I've been thinking more and more about moving back to CA. Mainly because my sisters and a lot of my close friends are there. I've been in DC for 2 years and 2 months now. And since then, I've had many friends but most of them have left. =( I think DC by nature is just such a transient place, especially for young people. It's like the metro station where you transfer to another line. Because of the transient nature of the city, I feel like I lack a real home and foundation. The fact that I've moved 2 times since I got to DC probably has something to do with that as well. I feel like my job is the only thing that's really keeping me here...and I can get transferred to our office out in SF. Hmmmm what to do, what to do. I need to think about it more. I've got a year until my lease ends, so that should be enough time...

Alrighty... I suppose I should go do something outdoors now. Since it's such a nice hot day and all. Or maybe I will take Wilson's advice and read something. I should get the Sunday paper...I need some more newspapers to line my kitchen floor for painting. =) And coupons!

Oy! Writing this entry has made me tired. Perhaps it's time for a nap. =)

    HOTNESS!!
I just spent the last 20 minutes on the Internet looking for an image of the cover of  Runner's World June 2005.  I just got my copy in the mail today and OMG the guy on the cover is SUPER HOT.  I don't know if he's just hot... or if the reason I think he's really hot is that he's on the cover of Runner's World.  Probably both. =)    For all I know he's just a model and not really a runner.  But I'll just keep believing that he's an avid runner.  I tell ya...if all the guys who run looked like that I'd be out there every day running after them!  =)

Speaking of hotness...there is this guy at work.. Chris...who my coworker  and I have named "hottest federal employee in the building."  The reason we have to qualify with the "federal employee" part is that at any given time, an even hotter contractor may walk through the door.   Anyway, I saw him this morning on my way back from a run.  Of course when I saw him I was all sweaty and tired.  My friend Jennifer tried to tell me that sweaty is sexy.  hmmm I don't know about that...

Random thoughts that are coming to me while watching the NBA playoffs:
    - I want a trampoline.
    - Charles Barkley got really fat
    - I miss the John Tesh NBA on NBC theme song...
    - Tony Parker is cute...and he's also like one of the luckiest men on earth.. he's dating Eva Longoria!
    - What is a Spur?  I know what spurs are on cowboy boots... but that's a thing, not a mascot.
    - What is a Nugget?  like a Hershey's nugget?  A gold nugget?  What kind of nuggets do they have in Denver?
    - Basketball players have nice arms.
    - TNT has bad color schemes.
    - Oh, wow, the Wizards are good this year!  They're actually in the playoffs!
    - "D-Fence"
    - How can Gilbert Arenas be number 0? 0 isn't really a number, just like white is the absence of color.
    - I miss Steve Kerr on the Bulls/Spurs.
    - Robert Horry!
    - I want to be a NBA dancer girl when I grow up. =)

    Tired...in a good way
I am so physically tired. After missing my run on Friday, my body was craving one badly so this morning I woke up early to go run downtown.   I made it my mission to run up and down every steps that I saw.  It was awesome to run up the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and enjoy the view from the top.  Next time I'll have to play the Rocky theme song for motivation.   But now my legs are really sore and I'm sure I'll pay for it even more tomorrow.

On my run, I realized how lucky I am to be living in DC (minus the high income taxes).  I get to run in the nation's capital, past many monuments and memorials that people come from miles just to see.   Today I ran past the White House, the US Capitol, the Lincoln, World War II, Vietnam, RDR, Jefferson, and Korean Memorials, the Washington Monument, and all the Smithsonian museums along the national mall.  I guess I never really appreciated it until now.  What better scenery to see on a long run than the monuments and memorials? One of my favorite views in DC is the one from the top of the steps of the US Capitol.  From there, you can see all the way to the Lincoln Memorial, with the Washington Monument, WWII memorial, and the national mall in between.  It's even more amazing at night.  One of these days I'll have to take pictures and post them so you all will actually come visit me!   Funny, coincidental thing... I had my ipod on shuffle and while I was at the top of the Capitol steps, which of the almost 1000 songs on my pod comes on?  The very fitting "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood.

On Saturday I saw Fever Pitch and The Interpretor-- each entertaining in its own way.
The Interpretor was also really good.  I like Sean Penn and Nicole Kidman a lot as actors.   Fever Pitch was very cute.  Can I marry Jimmy Fallon?  After the movie, my friend Ron and I were discussing how real their relationship is-- whether someone like Drew Barrymore's character (successful business woman) would date a school teacher.  I would say yes because I am partial to teachers and would like to think that if I was the successful business woman I would date a school teacher (I am a softy for any guy who loves children).

To answer my own question about how I would feel if a random guy came up to me... it depends.  Generally I would be very flattered, but in certain situations I would be grossed out by it.  For example, on my way to the Metro in my 'hood on Saturday afternoon, I walked past these three guys (they looked no older than 18).  One guy says to the others "damn she's cute" and then says to me "hey baby."  Instead of being flattered, I was totally grossed out.  I don't know if it's more that they were younger guys or if they looked like they were up to no good--most likely both. On the other hand if the guy at Whole Foods said somethign like that to a friend, would I feel the same way?  Or would I be flattered?

And to address the other issue I brought up about whether a girl should ask a guy out... I say yes, a girl can ask a guy out... but I don't know if I could do it unless I knew for sure that the guy was interested, too.  Actually, I would guess that most girls probably feel the same way...and most girls just wait for and expect the guy to make the first move.  With that said, I'm SO glad I'm not a guy.  You guys have it hard!   But you just gotta suck it up, be a man and JUST DO IT like Michael Jordan. :)

Alrighty, time to rest up for another week ahead...

    WOOHOO Friday!
Yay it's Friday! AND better yet, it was my Friday off! =) It was a yucky rainy day in DC and it would have been a perfect stay-at-home-in-pjs-and-watch-tv-curled-up-on-the-couch-with-cookies-and-hot-chocolate-and-a-blanket type of day, but I had to run some errands.

In the morning I had to get up at my usual time to go check out a house on Capitol Hill (yup, we're moving again... I'm starting to feel like a gypsy). Then I took my car to get an oil change. While I waited for the car, I went shopping and bought some stuff that I don't really need-- like a new pink bikini. What in the world was I thinking? It's raining and cloudy outside and I'm buying a swimsuit? When do I ever go swimming? Not to mention that I already own 2 (one that's pink). Note to self: must stop compulsive buying.

Oh, and I went into PetsMart because I wanted to see if they had any puppies (they didn't). I always get scared being in a pet store where there are live animals in cages. I don't know why, but I imagine what would happen if they all got loose. I walked very briskly past the rodents and the snakes (Question: Why do they put the rodents right by the snakes? Don't snakes eat rodents?) Stopped briefly at the chinchilla cage to see what they look like in real life because Wilson is always telling me how cute they are. They were kind of cute, but not $130 cute. The guinea pigs were only $30! Why would you spend an extra $100 on a chinchilla? They all look the same to me-- ratsy. =) On my way out, I saw big scary fat cats in cages. They looked like they wanted to (and could) eat me so I ran out of the store as fast as I could. (See, Wilson.. I'm an animal lover!)

After the car was done (and washed), I drove to the only Apple store within like a 50 mile radius of DC that I know how to get to. Got new earphones for free and bought a charger for my pod (I flirted with the Apple dude so he would give me the federal government discount even though I forgot my ID...ahh the luxuries of being a girl.)

Then, on my way home, I saw a Whole Foods with a Jamba Juice so of course I had to go. I think I need to open up more Jamba Juice stores on the East Coast. When I was in Boston the first weekend in April, Sue and I went to the ONLY Jamba in the whole state of Massachusetts. So of course, since then I've been craving Jamba. I even wrote an email to the Jamba Juice corporate office to tell them to open up a store at Union Station in DC, which is a few blocks from where I work. I think I would drink Jamba Juice every day if I could. They're so yummy!!

Speaking of yummy...when I was waiting for my drink, this hot, well dressed guy was placing his order. (For my DC friends: I'm pretty sure he was straight. The clue: he wore an undershirt under his dress shirt. For my non-DC friends who are wondering why I had to clarify: Usually, the only hot guys you see at Whole Foods come in pairs and are gay.) Not only was he hot, straight, and likes Jamba Juice...he drives a BMW! (No, I was not stalking him...I just happened to go out to the parking lot at the same time) We made eye contact a few times and had I not been feeling and looking frumpy maybe I would have said something...but what would I have said?

So after my encounter with this hot-straight-Jamba Juice drinking-BMW driving-man I started thinking...Do girls really "pick up" guys? And if so, do they have good pick up lines like guys do? I have to admit that I'm more old-fashioned in that I think the guy should say something first (also because I'm a wuss). Has time changed rules? Now in the 21st century, do guys expect the girl to make the first move? If so, someone should send out a memo. If not, guys need to get some guts!

    Question for the peanut gallery:
Fellas-- if you saw a hot girl somewhere like the grocery store or on the metro, would you say something to her? What would you say?
Ladies-- if a random guy at the grocery store or on the metro started talking to you (and he was obviously interested) how would you react/feel?

    Inspired...
After spending a wonderful and beautiful weekend in Boston and seeing all you fun people, who started me on LJ, at Wing and Jen's wedding/picnic, I was inspired to log on and post. I couldnt even remember the last time I posted until I re-read my approximately 12 total LJ entries (yeah I'm pathetic... I'm lucky I even remembered my password. Wilson had to remind me how to post an entry). I must first add a disclaimer...I haven't written anything non-work related (meaning not a formal business case or a white paper without acronyms like OMB, MOU, ED/FSA, etc) in a LONG time.

So, back to the talk about the wonderful and beautiful weekend...everything related to the wedding was nothing less than awesome...I mean...look at the bride and groom! Did ya expect any less? =) They're so special that the angels in heaven moved away all the clouds and brought out the sun for a whole weekend just to celebrate! Wing and Jen-- congrats again...you guys are too cute.

It was good to see everyone again...although it made me really miss living in Boston (maybe if the angels can also arrange that the snow not come down so much and it not be so cold up there I'd move back). I have to say that I am a fan of weddings. The people, the ceremony, the food, and of course the dancing ;) Thanks to everyone for a fun weekend.

Today was pretty much typical Monday at work-- morning meetings, walk to Starbucks, read the online Washington Post, check Craigslist for housing listings, catch up on my page-a-day origami calendar (i'm still on February), get hungry around 11am, eat lunch at 1:00, almost fall asleep during 2pm meeting until the group assigns me work.

What was NOT typical about today...the SUN and blue skies in DC, going to the grocery store to find that my favorite juice-Boalthouse Farms Passion Fruit Carrot juice- was on sale at our ghetto Giants, coming home and watching the Nats game agains the Marlins on ESPN (yeah, we lost but it's still baseball in DC!), and getting a piece of a gummi bear stuck up my nose (yeah, I know that's not ladylike...and dont ask me how it happened, but it hurt so much that I just had to warn you all to be careful when eating gummi bears! I was in pain... like tears pain)

OK, it's getting late and I have to get up at 5:30 to run tomorrow morning so I best go catch my Zzzzzs.

I'll leave you with this... today, I am inspired by...
    - Wing and Jen...the beautiful people that they are and the love that they share
    - Lance Armstrong...his drive to go for Tour de France #7
    - Marathon runners...their mental and physical endurance

yay for vacation.... boo for hurricane...
SELFISHNESS ALERT-- YAY!! Our cruise is still on! Just got moved to Sunday and cut short by one day. But we're getting comped pretty nicely and will most likely be upgraded since a lot of people have cancelled. Yay for a vacation.

Ok... now to more serious and nonselfish things-- here's to hoping that the hurricane is gentle to Florida and the South. My coworker told me that in 1992 when Andrew hit, it was so bad that the federal government asked for fed employees to volunteer to go down there to help however they can. They were in need of bodies and informative people who could not only help pick up debris and rebuild, but also govt employees who can help victims fill out forms for disaster loan and grant applications and filing their claims with their insurance companies. I sure hope that France won't be that severe. But if it is... I'm ready to go down to FL and do what I can. At the very least it would be nice change from sitting in my cubicle at the office.

Took a 2 hour lunch today to Mongolian BBQ.. Mmmmm I coudl eat that stuff every day! THen since the weather was so nice, we took a long walk back to the office. It's so nice at work when the bosses are gone! =)

    Time to start packing now...

    bored... and anxious...
My friend Ron and boredom inspired me to actually post on my LJ. It's been almost 8 months since I last posted in January!! WHOA... it's been a while. Wing has reminded me nicely many times to post on LJ, but for one reason or another, I've been busy and havent had the chance to. BUT... since I'm bored out of my mind today... here's an update on my life =)

Work has been going well. This has been a pretty dead week because my supervisor and boss are out on vacation. I literally had to beg for work to do. Arent you glad your tax dollars are being well spent? =) Really though.. most of the time I work nonstop and dont even have time to eat lunch, but this week is special. Oh, for those of you who are interested... here's the website that I've been working on for the past 9 months. www.govloans.gov Disclaimer: there's still some stuff on the site that require more work and updates. The contractors are aware of this and are supposed to get it done, but they're incompetent Booz Allen people who don't respond to anything except money so it's not really my fault. =) FOr the most part though, it's a great website!

Ok, now that I've bored you all to death about work...I'll do some complaining..

So I'm supposed to go on a cruise this Saturday to the Caribbeans. Unless you've been hiding in a cave for the past few days, you know that there is a category 4 hurricane, Frances, that is currently hitting the Caribbeans and towards Florida and Georgia. It's projected to hit FL on Saturday. My originaly itineray includes flying to Ft Lauderdale on Saturday morning and sail off Sat afternon for a week, stoping over at St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and a private island in the Bahams. So.. everything is still up in the air right now and the cruise line isn't making any decisions or announcements until tomorrow at the earliest. Everyone keep their fingers crossed please!!!! I wanna go on vacation! I need this vacation to relax!!! If anyone has connections with Mother Nature, please tell Her to move her beloved hurricane Frances elsewhere... ok? Ok. thanks!

As I type this.. I'm watching a Josh Hartnett movie...it's a crappy movie (here on earth) but Josh is in it so at least it's got good views.

Well, its 9pm.. which means almost my bedtime. If I'm not lazy I'll get up at 5:20 and head down to the national mall and monuments to run for a bit...

    Happy MLK Jr Day!
I have 10 minutes before pilates...and reading Wilson's LJ inspired me to post.

So this whole weekend my roomates and I have been obsessed with skin care and makeup. It all started with our "Mary Kay" party on Saturday. For those of dont know, a Mary Kay party is one where women sit around and play with skin care products and makeup! When you hear the words Mary Kay, you probably think of your grandma or your mothers, but I'll have you know that they have a lot of cool stuff for younger women!

On Saturday night I went over to a high school friend's- Dave- apartment for dinner and to hang out with some other high school friends- Kathy and Ron. Food was yummy and the company was fun. The only sucky part was the walking on the icy sidewalks and having to pay $7 cab ride home.

Sunday was spent at the mall and watching football. We tried on prom dresses at Macy's and had way too much fun. Chevys for dinner was a great treat, and I ordered extra so I could have leftovers for lunch today.

I spent most of the day at home cleaning and being a bum, except for the 2 trips I made to CVS to buy lipgloss and other random things I really dont need. =) We have a ghetto CVS at the corner of our street. Also in this CVS is a police substation, which means that there is a DC policeman standing in there whenever the store is open. It's quite comforting to know that if something happens in the CVS there is a gun carrying officer right in the store! The first time I went with my roommate Jamie and we spent about an hour in the makeup aisle trying to find a lipgloss that we liked. Then we spent some more time in the lotion aisle. Jamie and I are best shopping buddies. =) We once spent 4.5 hours at Target! My 2nd trip to CVS was with Vicky, who, after seeing our lipgloss, wanted some of her own. And since I have nothing better to do than go to ghetto CVS in my ghetto weekend clothes, decided to tag along.

The long weekend is almost over...and my room is still a mess. I just finished cleaning the kitchen. I think I have some sort of disorder. I went down to the kitchen to get some food and ended up cleaning the whole kitchen! I get into these cleaning moods where I'll want to clean the whole house.

Alrighty.. tonight is pilates night at the "home gym" and I'm being beckoned to go downstairs. Ooh American Idol's on tonight. =) I gotta see the dude who sings Ricky Martin! "She bangs, she bangs.... ooh baby.."

Yay, its a 2 day work week for me =) Going to CALIFORNIA on Thursday. =)

    Happy Wednesday!
It's Wednesday! Which means, time to think about the weekend!

Today at work, I did my normal thing. My coworkers came to my cube around lunch time and took all my candy!! Then my coworker George came by a little later and started throwing candy at all the other people on our floor, over their cubicles. Needless to say, my coworkers are a riot. Someone was playing with the lights this afternoon, so they kept going on and off, and on and off. A few people came by and accused me for playing with the lights! They yelled jokingly "stop playing with the lights!" I guess being the "intern," you get blamed for everything.

When I came home, I heated up my chili and corn bread for dinner.. Mmmmmm. After dinner, my roommates Jamie, Anne, and I went to CVS in our frumpy clothes. Jamie and I were in our PJs but we decided that since our CVS is so ghetto, we would fit in best if we went in our PJs. Jamie was self conscious about it, but I walked right in there and bought waht I needed. =) I love not having to impress anyone! Our ghetto CVS is exactly that- ghetto. I can't say that they have the smartest or nicest people working there.

After CVS was Jeopardy!!!! The true nerds that we are, we watch Jeopardy every night at 7:30pm. My personal favorite is kids and teen jeopardy, because it makes me feel smart. A few weeks ago they had "genius" jeopardy, and I felt really dumb watching that.

When Jeopardy was over, we couldnt find anythin else to watch. So, I flipped to the Spanish channel and muted the TV. We then proceeded to dub the words ourselves, making up dialog. That was fun for about 20 minutes. (Yes we are easily amused).

I must go to sleep early tonight so I can go to work early to avoid being on the Metro during optimal travel time. My plan is to get to work early so I can leave early. We have this plan set up in case anything happens tomorrow. We even bought extra bottled water! It's kind of scary being in DC now. But then, its not like tomorrow is any different from any other day...my sources in Congress tell me that intelligence chatter is as high as it was before 9-11-01. Some members of Congress are even requiring their staff to carry a gas mask with them at all times. Craziness!! I will try to just go through the day as if it was any other day...

    YAY
I got my TV today!!! FINALLY!! A working TV!

I took the afternoon off to stay at home and wait for the UPS man. This was the 3rd and final attempt at delivering my TV so I wanted to make sure I was home for it. Being at home during the weekday feels soooo good! I watched Passions- the most hilarious soap opera ever, a little of Dr. Phil- the most annoying man ever, and some QVC- almost bought me some flannel sheets. I also played the piano for a while. New songs that I learned to play:

I'm not a girl, not yet a woman- Britney
    Drops of Jupiter- Train
    All or Nothing- O-Town
    Angel- Sarah McLaughlin
    Superman- Five for Fighting

Baked brownies for a coworker's birthday tomorrow. Mmmm brownies.

Cleaned my room, vacuumed, set up my TV and DVD player!! WOOHOO

Now I am falling asleep watching "I Dream of Genie"....

    the DC
As Wilson kindly points out, it's been a while since I've posted on LJ...August 5th to be exact.

My life in DC has been a riot so far. For those of you who don't know, I live in a 5 bedroom townhouse in Columbia Heights, DC. Columbia Heights is what some people might call the "ghetto" of North West DC because, well, there is gang violence and some parts of the neighborhood aren't soo nice, especially at night. But before you start warning me and telling me to carry a gun (which, btw is illegal in the district-- so much for the 2nd amendment), my block is actually pretty safe. We know most of our neighbors because we attend neighborhood meetings. Last time our meeting was at the church on the corner where lots of Afrian American folks called each other "sister this" and "brother that." And the agenda for the meeting looked like this:

    1) Trash
    2) Rats
    3) Cats

Interesting huh? So there is an interesting correlation between these three topics. If we leave our trash out the rats will go through it and make a huge mess. But if we have cats to get rid of the rats, we wouldnt have to worry about leaving our trash out. We had an hour long conversation about how there is this organization called the "Alley Cats Allies" who like to drop cats off in allies to supposedly "get rid of the rat problem." So we have all these nasty cats in our allies. But what's worse, there is this crazy woman who comes to feed the freakin cats!?! what's the point of having the cats there if you feed them?! They're supposed to hunt the rats! AND, one of our neighbors testifies that he's seen rats and cats eating side by side. The crazy woman feeds both the cats and the rats and the two species chow down as if they were buddies!! Anyhoo, more about our house and my neighborhood later...there are endless stories to tell there.

In other news, I was asked out by our "mailroom president." What, exactly, is a mailroom president you ask? Same thing I wondered...but I think it is the person in charge of the mail in the mailroom. Long story short, this guy who delivers mail in our building emails me the other day to ask me to a movie or a "bite to eat." What's interesting is that in his email of 6 sentences, my roommate Anne, who is an editor, found more than 10 spelling and/or grammatical errors. Also interesting is that fact that I've never actually met this guy. I've only seen him delivering mail and walking down the hall and said hi to him out of courtesy. So I emailed him back to say that this is probably not appropriate for the work place and he emails me back to thank me for letting him down easy...and...he signs his email with "mailroom president." Quite an interesting fellow. I also noticed that he did not deliver mail to the 10th floor that day but instead he sent someone else.

Alrighty, enough crazy DC stories for now. More to come later, hopefully, if I remember to post again within the next month. =)

    Only in America...
Only in America will you experience this...

I was walking to the metro station last Friday on my way home. On the sidewalk I see a woman holding a sign that says "Homeless, hungry, please help." Of course this is a pretty regular thing to see on the streets of DC but...this woman was talking on a cell
phone!!!!!!!! A homeless woman with a cell phone...what a sight. If
I had a camera, I would have taken her picture and sent it in to Jay
    Leno. =)

    Goodbye Boston...
Since many of you have hinted at the fact that I dont post enough, I thought it would be appropriate to say goodbye on my last night in Boston. In less than 12 hours, I will be on a plane on my way back home to L.A. In less than a week I'll be on a plane from LA to Washington DC, where I will be starting my job with the US Department of Education.

While I am excited about the future, I am extremely sad about leaving Boston. It seems like just yesterday I got here to start my program. Now, 9 months later, I am leaving.

Thank you to all of you in Boston who have made my stay here so wonderful. Everyone has made me feel so welcome and loved ever since the first day I got here. I never could have moved to a new city and survived without the help and guidance of friends and family. My 9 months (6 of them cold) here has been challenging at times but for the most part rewarding and memorable. There were the good times and plenty of not so good times, but overall I can honestly say that I've gotten what I want from my time both at Harvard and in Boston. I am grateful for the new people I've met and for the opportunity to become closer with old friends. I owe a HUGE thank you to Wing for always taking care of me and always inviting me out. If it weren't for him, I swear, most weekends I'd be sitting at home watching TV all day.

I came to Boston with 2 big suitcases, high expectations, great excitement, and a pinch of fear. Tomorrow I will walk away with one small carryon bag, higher expectations, even more excitement, and with greater fear of the "real world." But I know that wherever I go, I will be surrounded by people who care about me and I will carry all the memories that you all helped to create these last 9 months. Because of all of you, I leave here with a smile on my face. (Although right now, as I write this post, I can't help but cry.)

I will miss my Boston friends and the wonderful city, but don't worry I'll be back to visit. Please come see me in DC sometime!! I'll be looking forward to lots of visitors. I will try my best to post on LJ more regularly and to keep in touch!

    Take care! Julia =)

    It's a beautiful day!
I'm stuck indoors writing a paper on Congress today. The goal is to finish by 4pm today, but of course its already 12:30 and I havent started. Grrrr I only have 3 more classes left!! Last day of class for me is this Wed. It's quite sad to think about not being a student...because that's the only life I've known for the last 16 years of my life. What will I do? I know I will miss the academic world a lot, but its about time that I put my knowledge and skills to use!

I will also miss these days when I have nothing to do but sit, watch tv, and wait for the mailman. Ahh...the life of a student. Waking up at 10am, having free time to do whatever, school vacations, sigh...but I am looking forward to being paid to do work rather than paying to do work.

Warm weather makes me sleepy...I'm out for now.

    What a fun-filled, tiring day!
Dim sum at Chau Chow was YUMMY!! (even though they made us wait for a long time for an "intimate" table) I haven't had dim sum since November! MMmm And the company- Wing, Grant, Kent, Jess & Cy, Cat, Hoey- was great, as always. I was just thinking how sad I'll be when I leave Boston. I won't get to hang out with the cool people here anymore... =(

After dimsum some of us headed over to the St. Patricks Day parade in Boston. Lots of people in green, drinking, having a good time. And the parade was cool- bagpipes, drums, guns, men in uniform, men in skirts, and the likes. All in all, a good time.

After the parade Sue and I walked all the way to Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market. Boy, that was a trek, but it was at least somewhat nice out and the Guinness we got at the Irish Pub- Ned Devine was worth it. So was the soft-serve ice cream that I got at Quincy Market after the beer. Mmmmm

Took a free cab ride from Harvard Square home...had a mean cab driver who wanted us to pay him even though his dispatcher said we didn't need to...what an idiot.
